This is a cast Victorian era horse brass made in the 1890-1910 with faded evidence still of the casting sprews.

The brass had impurities when cast and is not a perfect casting, but it is still very decorative.

Horse brasses were developed in the 17th century to decorate and identify draft horses and are very collectible.

In England you see them decorating the beams in pubs or hung by the fireplace in homes, and my horse loving friends have been known to decorate their Christmas trees with them!  A great conversation starter as well as versatile and fun.
