The motto of the dish which may well be a dog dish, is a souvenir made to be sold in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland with the motto Ilka Dog Has His Day.

The dish or plate measures .5 inch high by 5.5 inches in diameter and is in very good +++ used vintage condition with 2 small back rim chips that are not visible from the front chips or cracks, but there are mineral deposits from firing and some under glaze bubbles.

But a rarely seen form of mottoware. A wonderful item for your mottoware collection.

Famous and fun motto ware or mottoware has been manufactured in the south of England from the 1860s until the factories closed in the 1960s. It is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous.

Always fun and different and very collectible! So nice to bring a smile to dining or tea table or even as a dish for a small dog!!
