Aesthetic Movement Plate Lily And Vase Brown Transferware Dinner 1878 Elsmore Fan Asian
SKU:
This is an antique brown transferware dinner plate in the Aesthetic Movement or English Arts and Crafts design of Lily And Fan made by T. E. Elsmore & Sons, England between 1878 and 1890 during the late Victorian era. The design has the Registry Design diamond number noting the pattern was registered on May 14, 1878. The mark changed in 1890.
The plate measures 9.5 inches in diameter and features a collage of Asian or Japonesque designs including the namesake Lily and Vase, a fan, bamboo and othe foliage with a dentil border.
The plate is in in very good +++ used vintage condition with 1 tiny discolored rim chip, some mild use marks, and one side of the back has the mineral dust or kiln dust associated with early firings when something probably blew up in the kiln...which did happen frequently.
A wonderful example of Aesthetic Movement or English Arts and Crafts design, which is one of my most favorite design periods.
Gorgeous and so decorative!
