English Aesthetic Movement Hot Water Jug Pewter Lid English Mid Victorian Floral Pitcher 1880s

Antique Staffordshire, England

  • $ 000

This is an wonderful antique Staffordshire, England hand painted hot water pitcher or lidded jug that was made in 1880-1890 in the English Aesthetic Movement or Arts And Crafts style in the mid to late victorian period with the prettiest hand painted flowers and birds decoration.

The jug or pitcher measures 5.25 inches high to the top of the pot or 5.5 inches high to the top of the lid finial. The lidded pitcher or jug measures 5 inches across from spout tip to handle edge by 4 inches in diameter.

The pitcher is unmarked, but the lid is the James Dixon of Sheffield patent lift lid with a shape I always think of as a lily pad.

The jug is made of white porcelain with a lovely hand colored enamel paint on a brown transfer pattern of birds and flowers reminiscent of the Peony Tree pattern popular at that time.

The jug or pitcher is in very good ++ condition with no chips or cracks.

A decorative and usable piece of Victoriana that is still useable for hot water at the tea table, as a small teapot or for a wonderful Victorian decorative piece.
